Potts Pies first opened it doors to the public 1973, when Joe and Vena Potts realised their dream of having an outlet to sell their delicious homemade pies. They may now be a distant memory, but their legacy lives on and for over 40 years Potts has been synonymous with good quality wholesome food. Though the faces have changed and bakeries have come and gone Potts has been a staple for Lancaster residents.
Since 2016 the Potts baton has been carried by the Johnston family; owners of Susan's Pies in Morecambe (ironically enough, Susan Potts is daughter to Joe and Vena! She opened Susan's in 1989 after Joe sold Potts to the Walsh family). Both Rachael and Gareth are passionate bakers and recognise the traditions associated with both Lancaster and Morecambe institutions. Whilst they've added their own stamp to the menu, in the shape of regular Saturday specials ranging from the exotic Thai Green Curry, to the incredible Pulled pork with sweet smoky onions and homemade BBQ sauce, they've maintained the original recipes throughout.
Original recipes, handed down from one generation to another.
